American Hauntings

Oak Alley Plantation Pictures, Images and Photos

I just love watching stuff about ghosts. Did anyone catch Taps last night on the Sci Fi channel? It was awesome! They were down in Louisiana investigating Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie. I wish I could have been there with them during filming. Do you remember the scene, in Interview with a Vampire, where Brad Pit’s character is talking about his days before becoming a vampire? Well during that scene there is a shot of him riding away from this humongous plantation home that he lives at. That’s Oak Alley plantation. I actually got a chance to visit it a few years back. That place is huge! They say that during one tour, a candlestick flew across the room in full view of 35 tourists! Unfortunately though, nothing out of the ordinary happened while I was there. It would have been so cool if it had. Anyway, they guys get called out by one of the people who run the place. They want to see if Taps can get real documented video footage on the ghosts that are said to inhabit the place. They said that staff and volunteers have witnessed all kinds of cool stuff. Everything from figures in windows, lights coming on and going off by themselves, and the sound of boots on the floor even though no one is there. There have even been instances where some of the tour guides swear that they have heard carriages coming up the drive that are accompanied by a cloud of dust moving towards the house but, there isn’t anything there to be causing it. Now I am a skeptic so my first thought was okay, how much of this is really true? I’ve watched a few of their shows where they go to investigate places only to find out that the strange things people are experiencing can be explained away by normal stuff like shutters or mirrors. They actually had some cool stuff happen to them though and caught it on video. There was one instance where they had a flashlight come on all by itself and when they went to investigate, it went off and they found that the light was very cold to the touch and the immediate area surrounding the light was cold as well. My favorite thing, that happened to them, was they caught someone looking at them through the window off the balcony. There was no one out there though! Another cool thing they caught, on audio, was the sound of the boots on the floor. They were all wearing either flip flops or tennis shoes! Awesome. If I had actually been there, I probably would have been scared out of my ever loving mind.lol

I can’t help but, wonder how many people have unexplainable things happen to them? You know in ordinary places like their apartment or house. It doesn’t just happen at old plantation homes and castles. I would be interested to hear about it. If it will make you more inclined to tell me, about it, I will tell you about something that happened to me just the other night. It freaked me out and I still can’t figure out if I've watched too many episodes of ghost hunter or if I’m just losing my mind. Probably a little of both but, I digress.lol Anyway, I was home by myself, late Tuesday night when one of our Halloween toys, in the living room, started going off all by itself! Now I know some of those things have sensors that get set off really easy but, this one is set so you have to literally push the button on this thing to make it work. It went off 6 or 7 times in a row and then stopped. It hasn’t gone off since. I was tempted to stick it in the closet on the patio it freaked me out so bad.lol In the end though I left it. I’m curious to see if it does it again anytime soon. So, as I mentioned before, I would love to hear if anyone else has had some strange stuff happen to them. Please tell me I’m not the only one.lol :o)

Mr. Mai Tai went on a haunted pub tour in St. Augustine. Didn't see any ghosts but got to hear some good stories and had a few drinks. Overall a good night.

Well apparently you have a Chinese computer poltergeist...Bummer.

I've only experienced small strange things like sounds & lights at odd times. We have some ghost hunter types in our town; I should call them out sometime.

I know right? What the heck is that? Should I delete it? Is this my first spam?lol God it goes on forever. I read the first few lines and then it all just started blurrying together and putting me to sleep.lol

As for your experiences, they sound pretty cool. It would be interesting to see what the ghost hunters had to say about it.

That communist china spam is the scariest thing I've seen in a while. I've deleted my spams, but congrats on your first!

They remodeled two of the most haunted spots in Chicago (That Steak Joynt and The Red Lion Pub). The numerous hauntings at That Steak Joynt (nothing too scary, just tappings on the shoulder, cold spots) have ceased; and I'm suspecting the hauntings at Red Lion will have ceased as well once they reopen in November.

I had a ghost cat jump on my bed at a B&B in Cornwall! It jumped up, walked up to a spot behind my knees and plopped down. I reached to pet it and there was nothing there. That was actually really way more cool than freaky - I do love cats!

A ghost cat? That's cool. What did you do when you realized there wasn't anything there? Did they tell you ahead of time that you might get a visit? :o)

I just kinda looked over not really believing there was nothing there, then went to sleep. If it was a ghost ferret, I woulda been freaked out, but a cat? Not so much. We hadn't been warned about any feline phantasms upon check in. The owner of the house we stayed in - a very weathered little old lady - barely spoke two words to us, and those words weren't "ghost cat." I think they were "16 pounds. Each." Okay, three words.

Haha a ghost ferret...yeah that would have been something alright. I have 2 and I only made the mistake of falling asleep with them loose once. I woke up to them tunneling under the covers and digging and biting on my feet.lol It definately freaked me out.lol :o)

Hey! Nice blog. Nice post-thanks. It was a good episode-you should check out the one from St. Augustine Lighthouse that they did a while back-very good evidence.

Check out if you have not seen yet.

Hey thanks. Glad you like it. I remember watching that episode. The evidence they got was amazing. The show last night was pretty cool too. What did you think of the first house they visited? I wonder what is really happening with the little boy? I'm not sure how comfortable I would be living somewhere that has cabinet doors and bathroom doors opening and closing all the time.lol The evidence they got at the 2nd place was really neat too. I am still wondering how those 2 guys didn't hear that voice but, the other 2 did clear as day and caught it on tape. Interesting stuff for sure. :o)

I found the first house creepy. Not sure what is going on-I think more investigating is necessary. I would be concerned having such a small child there and he being so terrified. The second place was interesting. The EVP was so clear. Do you remember the movie The Others? I think that is what is going on there-the deceased does not know he has passed.

That movie was great. I need to watch it again. It's been awhile. I wonder if something like that is going on there? Poor guy, just roaming around wondering what the heck is going on.

I have been to the St. Augustine Lighhouse and I didn't see any ghosts. I did get a wicked cramp in my legs walking up all the stairs though. Unless that was a ghost manifesting itself by knotting up my calf muscles.

Haha I bet you did get wicked leg cramps after walking up all those stairs. Isn't it just the biggest disappointment to visit a place like that and have nothing happen? Wow,...and they have great evidence from there as well. Sorry, it was uneventful for you. :o/
